My Spin

(Just my opinion. Give us yours!)
To me, "Baby Let's Play House" encapsulates everything that is Rockabilly! From the iconic pink cadillac reference to the glorious stuttering b-b-b-b-b-b-babies, it's cool cat heaven from start to finish! Let's not forget that 10 years later John Lennon would build an entire song around the line "rather see you dead little girl than to be with another man", while here Elvis just spits it out as another punch line to one of the verses, and moves along to the chorus like it's no big deal. Go cat!

Oh, I'll definitely write some more about it too, so stay tuned! Meanwhile, dig the links an' stuff!

Other Spins

(What did the critics and fans say?)

'Baby Let's Play House' is a medium-fast rock number enlivened by raw and gutsy guitar work. Presley's repetitions of "Baby, baby, baby" are very exciting, and probably influenced Gene Vincent.

Robert Matthew-Walker, Elvis Presley: A Study in Music, 1979

A pure delight, with Elvis getting all tangled up in the "babys" at the end, chuckling...

The Complete Elvis, edited by Martin Torgoff, 1982

"Baby Let's Play House" Lyrics

Oh, baby, baby, baby, baby baby
Baby, baby baby, b-b-b-b-b-b baby baby, baby
Baby baby baby
Come back, baby, I wanna play house with you

Well, you may go to college, you may go to school
You may have a pink cadillac, but don't you be nobody's fool

Now baby come back, baby, come
Come back, baby, come
Come back, baby, I wanna play house with you

Now listen let me tell you baby, what I'm talking about
Come on back to me, little girl, so we can play some house

Now baby come back, baby, come
Come back, baby, come
Come back, baby, I wanna play house with you
Oh let's play house, baby

Now this is one thing, baby, I want you to know
Come on back and let's play a little house, we can act like we did before.

Well, baby, come back, baby, come
Come back, baby, come
Come back, baby
I wanna play house with you

Now listen to me, baby, try to understand
I'd rather see you dead, little girl, than to be with another man

Now baby come back, baby, come
Come back, baby, come
Come back, baby, I wanna play house with you

Oh, baby baby baby
Baby baby baby b-b-b-b-b-b baby baby baby
Baby baby baby
Come back, baby, I wanna play house with you
