My Spin

(Just my opinion. Give us yours!)

Elvis with Michele Carey
"Edge Of Reality" is an unusual song for Elvis, even as a soundtrack song. Kinda wierd, kinda goofy, but it kinda pulls you in, too. The segment in the film has to be seen to be believed, a strange dream sequence that tries to be psychedelic! Let's just say Elvis shouldn't try that on. Oh well, the song isn't as bad as the movie scene, and actually has its own strange appeal.

Other Spins

(What did the critics and fans say?)

"Edge Of Reality" is another interesting number. It begins with a chromatic choral introduction, and the use of brass is noteworthy.

Robert Matthew-Walker, Elvis Presley: A Study in Music, 1979

A ballad, European in flavor, with deep-toned strings, and staccato vocal backing.

Martin Torgoff, The Complete Elvis, 1982

...an (understandably) rare venture by the King of Rock & Roll into psychedelia -- admittedly, it is of the poppiest and most rhythmic variety of psychedelic pop (and one should see the dream sequence from Live a Little, Love a Little to which it is attached onscreen, for a real unintended hoot...

Neal Umphred & Bruce Eder, from the AllMusic review of Almost In Love

"Edge Of Reality" Lyrics and Downloads

I walk along a thin line darling
Dark shadows follow me
Here's where life's dream lies disillusioned
The edge of reality

Oh I can hear strange voices echo
Laughing with mockery
The border line of doom I'm facing
The edge of reality

On the edge of reality she sits there tormenting me
The girl with the nameless face
On the edge of reality where she overpowers me
With fears that I can't explain
She drove me to the point of madness
The brink of misery
If she's not real then I'm condemned to
The edge of reality

On the edge of reality she sits there tormenting me
The girl with the nameless face
On the edge of reality where she overpowers me
With fears that I can't explain
She drove me to the point of madness
The brink of misery
If she's not real then I'm condemned to
The edge of reality

Reality, reality, reality, reality
Reality, reality, reality, reality
