My Spin

(Just my opinion. Give us yours!)

"For The Heart" was a welcome sound on the country stations in 1976, a sign that Elvis was still alive and kicking! Nice piano, and a bass-line laid down by Dennis Linde himself, gives this tune some punch, and Elvis seems to be enjoying himself with the vocals.

I'll write some more later, but relax and have yourself a taste of some videos, music and links!

Other Spins

(What did the critics and fans say?)

"For The Heart" is one of the few fast numbers in this session. In style it is typical of the mid-1970s, having a solid beat and a piano trying to update Floyd Cramer. This, plus the powerful instrumental backing and the optimistic nature of the song, makes a welcome change.

Robert Matthew-Walker, Elvis Presley: A Study in Music, 1979

This song typifies where Elvis' musical tastes took him - a nakedly emotional, autobiographical selection, recorded in the Graceland den, with Elvis far from top vocal form but making the most out of the lyric.

Martin Torgoff, The Complete Elvis, 1982

"For The Heart" Lyrics and Downloads

Had a dream about you baby
Had a dream about me and you
Had a dream and woke up crying
Well I can roll but I just can't rock
And the time's going by, tick-tock
For the heart that just can't love no-one but you

Well I'm high and dry and lonely, I'm as lonely as can be
And I stare out of my window
Well I can play but I just can't win
And the weather's looking dim
For the heart that just can't love no-one but you

Chorus:
For the heart
For the heart
For the heart that just can't love no-one but you

For the heart
For the heart
For the heart that just can't love no-one but you

Had a dream about you baby
Had a dream about me and you
Had a dream and woke up crying
Well I can roll but I just can't rock
And the time's going by, tick-tock
For the heart that just can't love no-one but you

Repeat Chorus
