My Spin

(Just my opinion. Give us yours!)

with The Mellomen and actor Guy Raymond
in It Happened At The World's Fair
The same writers that produced "Return to Sender" gave us "One Broken Heart" a year later, and it bears more than a passing resemblance to that tune, although not nearly as appealing. This would also mark Elvis' first single to not reach the top ten on Billboard's chart, since he first hit it in '56, although it made it to #10 on Cash Box. Still, it's catchy enough, and, along with its superior flip-side ballad, stands out from the rest of the soundtrack of It Happened At The World's Fair.

I'll add some more later, but meanwhile check out the music and links.

Other Spins

(What did the critics and fans say?)

"One Broken Heart For Sale" is a better number than most of the other songs. It is a fast bouncer in "Return to Sender" style but it has a secondhand air. The song is marred by poor recording; the sound is tight and the acoustic has a squashed image.

Robert Matthew-Walker, Elvis Presley: A Study in Music, 1979

"One Broken Heart" Lyrics and Downloads

Who wants to buy a heart
One broken lover's heart
One broken heart for sale

Well, excuse me if you see me crying like a baby
Since she rejected me
There's nothing left to save me

Hey Cupid, where are you?
My heart is growing sadder
That girl rejected me
Just when I thought I had her

She would not listen to the things my heart was saying
She turned and walked away
And told me I was playing

Some guys have all the luck
And my heart hasn't any
I think I'll paint a sign
For sale for a penny
