My Spin

(Just my opinion. Give us yours!)

A great little gem from the New York recordings in early 1956, "One-Sided Love Affair" features great boogie woogie piano, by Shorty Long, and Elvis is at the top of his game, hiccupping and shouting out the lyrics and obviously having a great time with the song!

I'll add some more later, but meanwhile check out the music and links.

Other Spins

(What did the critics and fans say?)

A very good rock number can be found in "One-Sided Love Affair". Presley is in bouncy voice, with a 'hup' quality of humour and toe-tapping zest.

Robert Matthew-Walker, Elvis Presley: A Study in Music, 1979

More country and western than straight rock 'n' roll, but a crisp mover from the second RCA grouping.

Martin Torgoff, The Complete Elvis, 1982

If you want to be loved
Baby, you've got to love me, too
If you want to be loved
Baby, you've got to love me, too
Oh yeah, 'cause I ain't for no one-sided love affair

If you wanna be kissed
Well, you've gotta kiss me, too
Oh yeah, if you wanna be kissed
Well, you gotta kiss me, too
'Cause I ain't for no one-sided love affair

Well, fair exchange bears no robbery
And the whole world will know that it's true
Understanding solves all problems, baby
That's why I'm telling you

If you wanna be hugged
Well, you gotta hug me, too
Oh yeah, if you wanna be hugged
Well, you've gotta hug me, too
Yeah, 'cause I ain't for no one-sided love affair

If you know you can't take it
Baby, why try to give it?
If you know you can't take it
Then baby, why try to give it?
'Cause I ain't for no one-sided love affair

Well, fair exchange bears no robbery
And the whole world will know that it's true
Understanding solves all problems, baby
That's why I'm telling you

If you wanna be hugged
Well, you gotta hug me, too
Oh yeah, if you wanna be hugged
Baby, you gotta hug me, too
'Cause I ain't for no one-sided love affair

'Cause I ain't for no one-sided love affair
'Cause I ain't for no one-sided love affair
