My Spin

(Just my opinion. Give us yours!)

"Stuck On You" is a classic example of how effortlessly Elvis could crank out a solid pop-rock recording in just a few takes. In this session, Elvis' first after exiting the army, he was there specifically to record his first single. He produced six top-notch tunes, more than enough of a sample from which to choose sides for a single. Although some fine blues tunes were in the mix, "Stuck On You" was the sure pop hit that was needed. Like "All Shook Up", there's a catchy shuffling rhythm that acts as the framework for Elvis' bouncy and playful vocals, accented with some full stops. I'm sure as soon as the third take was in the can, "Stuck On You" was the clear choice!

I'll write more later, I promise. Meanwhile, relax, follow the links and make yourself comfortable.

Other Spins

(What did the critics and fans say?)

Another fine performance is "Stuck On You". This has a rock tempo, more gentle than the rockers of the 1950s. It is attractive, and beautifully recorded with everything balanced and clear. Presley sings in a relaxed manner, totally in command, and this recording has achieved classic status.

Robert Matthew-Walker, Elvis Presley: A Study in Music, 1979

The first release after his discharge from the army - as infectious as "All Shook Up". Can anyone roll "Grizzly Bear" off their tongue better than Elvis? Doubtful.

Martin Torgoff, The Complete Elvis, 1982

"Stuck On You" Lyrics and Downloads

You can shake an apple off an apple tree
Shake-a, shake- sugar, but you'll never shake me
Uh-uh-uh, no-sir-ee, uh, uh
I'm gonna stick like glue
Stick, because I'm, stuck on you

Gonna run my fingers thru your long black hair
Squeeze you tighter than a grizzly bear
Uh-uh-uh, yes-sir-ee, uh, uh
I'm gonna stick like glue
Stick because I'm stuck on you

Hide in the kitchen, hide in the hall
Ain't gonna do you no good at all
'Cause once I catch ya and the kissin' starts
A team o' wild horses couldn't tear us apart

Try to take a tiger from his daddy's side
That's how love is gonna keep us tied
Uh-uh-uh, yes-sir-ee, uh, uh
I'm gonna stick like glue
Stick, because I'm, stuck on you
