My Spin

(Just my opinion. Give us yours!)

"There's Always Me" nicely kicks off Side 1 (the "ballad side") of Something For Everybody, with Floyd Cramer's piano flourish and Elvis smoothly croonin' along, finishing with a dramatic roar! After "It's Now Or Never", nobody doubted that Elvis could handle the vocal nuances of a fine ballad or hit the strong notes, but this Don Robertson tune lets him shine from start to finish!

I'll write some more later, promise, meanwhile dig the music and links.

Other Spins

(What did the critics and fans say?)

"There's Always Me" is a superb performance: the opening is magical, with much achieved with little effort. A fine track, of which any singer would feel proud.

Robert Matthew-Walker, Elvis Presley: A Study in Music, 1979

Slow ballad, with nice Floyd Cramer piano and the Jordanaires. A nice crescendo at the end with Elvis' voice and the band.

Martin Torgoff, The Complete Elvis, 1982

"There's Always Me" Lyrics and Downloads

When the evening shadows fall
And you're wondering who to call
For a little company
There's always me
If your great romance should end
And you're lonesome for a friend
Darling, you need never be
There's always me

I don't seem to mind somehow
Playing second fiddle now
Someday you'll want me, dear
And when that day is here

Within my arms you'll come to know
Other loves may come and go
But my love for you will be eternally
Look around and you will see
There's always me
