"His Hand In Mine" is the title song to Elvis' first full-length album of gospel songs (He'd released a 4-song EP earlier, Peace In The Valley). Elvis always engaged himself completely in his gospel recordings, but in this performance he really blends in nicely, basically taking the role of lead singer of the Jordanaires. I suspect he also relished the opportunity to do the low-note baritone in the bridge when he sings "I will never walk alone, He holds my hand...". Fine vocals all around! Stay tuned, I'll write more later, but meanwhile check out the music and links! |
Other Spins(What did the critics and fans say?)In "His Hand In Mine", Presley sings beautifully against the vocal backing. Although the instrumentalists are unknown, it is possible the distinctive piano stylist is Floyd Cramer.
