Although there are exceptions, most of Elvis' movie title songs sound like what they are: Two-and-a-half-minute advertisements for the film. "Kissin' Cousins" doesn't rise much above that. It starts off promising, drums and sax build an opening rhythm, guitar licks come in, and Elvis starts singing, but by the second line, you've been assured that it's going to be another silly movie song. Still, it's a notch above a lot of other soundtrack tunes, and certainly better than almost everything else on the Kissin' Cousins soundtrack. What's more interesting is what Australian punkers, The Saints, did with this in 1977. You must hear it, if only out of curiosity. Now if only there had been a punk version of "Ito Eats"! I'll be writing more later, but meanwhile check out the music and links. |
Other Spins(What did the critics and fans say?)"Kissin' Cousins", No. 1, is an underrated song. It has a bluesy feel, with sensational drumming. Robert Matthew-Walker, Elvis Presley: A Study in Music, 1979 The first version of the song is a rocker with a good beat, a sax break and wailing guitars. Well I've got a gal, she's as cute as she can be She's a distant cousin but she's not too distant with me We'll kiss all night I'll squeeze her tight But we're kissin' cousins 'n that's what makes it all right All right, all right, all right Oh I've got a girl and she taught me how to live She can give a lot and she's got a lot to give We'll kiss all night I'll squeeze her tight But we're kissin' cousins 'n that's what makes it all right All right, all right, all right Yes we're all cousins, that's what I believe Because we're children of Adam and Eve I got a girl and she wants a lot of love That's the kind of trouble I need plenty of We'll kiss all night I'll squeeze her tight But we're kissin' cousins 'n that'll make it all right All right, all right, all right We'll be kissin' cousins that'll make it all right All right, all right, all right Yes we're all cousins, that's what I believe Because we're children of Adam and Eve I got a girl and she wants a lot of love That's the kind of trouble I need plenty of We'll kiss all night I'll squeeze her tight But we're kissin' cousins 'n that'll make it all right All right, all right, all right We're kissin' cousins that'll make it all right All right, all right, all right We're kissin' cousins that's what makes it all right All right, all right, all right |
