"Life" is a different song for Elvis, certainly not a gospel tune, although the lyrics are religious. It's more generically spiritual, some would say almost "New Age" with its reference to things like formation of matter in the universe. In any case, it's not Elvis' usual cup o' tea, and although he does a fine job, I don't think it suits him very well. He's not The Moody Blues. :) It did OK on the Easy Listening chart, though. I'll be writing more later, but meanwhile check out the music and links. |
Other Spins(What did the critics and fans say?)...massive, slow and uninspired in both material and execution. Robert Matthew-Walker, Elvis Presley: A Study in Music, 1979 The story of earth from formation through decline to the hope of love. Fancy arrangement but doesn't sparkle like a true spiritual.
