With a title like "Long-Legged Girl (With The Short Dress On)", you know this isn't going to be a serious ode to love (or anything else!). Although it may not have fared well in competition with the counter-culture music of the Summer of Love, it certainly holds up well for newer Elvis fans discovering it a generation or two after the fact... like me. To many this may be a silly throwaway, but to those of us becoming fans in the '70s (and beyond), the hard-edged sound of "Long-Legged Girl" was a standout from other Elvis movie songs on the budget RCA Camden albums, and there's no denying it's a standout on the Double Trouble soundtrack. From the moment Elvis shouts out that first "All right!", to the closing bars, it's one wild ride, and it's over way too soon! At 1:26, it's the shortest Elvis single ever to make the charts. |
