I like "The Sound Of Your Cry" better than its flip side, although I must admit the lyrics sort of make me want to say, "Just be a man and face the music, will ya". Tiptoe out of the house just to avoid the sound of her cry? C'mon! I think you're avoiding the sound of her slappin' your face! :) Nice melody, though, and Elvis does a fine job. I think this was the last Elvis song by the team of Giant-Baum-Kaye, who mostly wrote soundtrack songs for him. |
Other Spins(What did the critics and fans say?)"The Sound Of Your Cry" is an unusual ballad, which Presley sings particularly well, but the song alone could never have made it. Robert Matthew-Walker, Elvis Presley: A Study in Music, 1979 Elvis leaving before his lady awakes and she cries on learning of his departure - sort of "By The Time I Get To Phoenix". Elvis exploits the lilting lyrics admirably. The end is drawn out and melodramatic.
