The title song to Elvis' seventh film, "Wild In The Country" serves its purpose well. It's a nice soft ballad with Elvis' vocals pristine over acoustic guitar. Like much of the rest of this film's soundtrack, the arrangement is simple and instrumentation minimal. It's an attractive melody, as one might expect from this songwriting team. Peretti, Creatore and Weiss were known for producing serviceable pop hits (not to mention reworking a classic melody to produce "Can't Help Falling In Love"), so I'm sure it was no sweat to crank out a lovely ballad to drape over the opening credits of an Elvis flick. |
Other Spins(What did the critics and fans say?)"Wild In The Country", another gentle number, is heard over the credits in the film, where its hypnotic movement creates the film's atmosphere. Robert Matthew-Walker, Elvis Presley: A Study in Music, 1979 Sung over the credits of the 1961 film - a quiet ballad - sung with sincerity with the Jordanaires. A rose grows wild in the country A tree grows tall as the sky The wind blows wild in the country And part of the wild, wild country, am I Wild, wild, like the deer and the dove Wild and free as this land that I love A dream grows wild in the country A love grows tall as the sky A heart beats wild in the country And here with a dream in my heart Part of the wild, wild country, am I Part of the wild, wild country, am I |
