My Spin

(Just my opinion. Give us yours!)

"Good Luck Charm" would be Elvis' last single to top the charts until "Suspicious Minds" in 1969. It's a bouncy upbeat tune that Elvis knocked out in four takes. It ain't as easy to sing as he makes it sound, though. Have you tried it lately? Betcha can't get through that last line of the verse and first line of the chorus without being out of breath, can ya? Ah-uh-huh! Ah-uh-huh! Ohhhhh yeah!

OK, take a break, catch your breath, and just browse the links and music, I'll write more of this spiel later.

Other Spins

(What did the critics and fans say?)

"Good Luck Charm" was a big hit throughout the world, (No. 1 in Britain) but, heard from a distance of almost twenty years, does not stand up. It is a medium tempo bounce, elevated to hit status by the musicianship lavished upon it. Presley's genius as a singer stems partly from his ability to give a totally committed performance, bringing out the song's best qualities, so that one feels the song is better than it really is.

Robert Matthew-Walker, Elvis Presley: A Study in Music, 1979

Elvis' #1 hit in 1962, a tuneful arrangement in the sexy style of "All Shook Up". Classic Jordanaires. Lots of uh-huhs and a-hems and o-yeas. Always a fun record.

Martin Torgoff, The Complete Elvis, 1982

"Good Luck Charm" Lyrics and Downloads

Don't want a four leaf clover
Don't want an old horse shoe
Want your kiss 'cause I just can't miss
With a good luck charm like you

Come on and be my little good luck charm
Uh-huh huh, you sweet delight
I want a good luck charm
a-hanging on my arm
To have, to have, to hold, to hold tonight

Don't want a silver dollar
Rabbit's foot on a string
The happiness in your warm caress
No rabbit's foot can bring

Come on and be my little good luck charm
Uh-huh huh, you sweet delight
I want a good luck charm
a-hanging on my arm
To have, to have, to hold, to hold tonight

If I found a lucky penny
I'd toss it across the bay
Your love is worth all the gold on earth
No wonder that I say

Come on and be my little good luck charm
Uh-huh huh, you sweet delight
I want a good luck charm
a-hanging on my arm
To have, to have, to hold, to hold tonight
