My Spin

(Just my opinion. Give us yours!)

"I Beg Of You" was the flip-side of the million-selling hit ballad, "Don't", but stands on its own as a nice bouncy pop-rock tune, which Elvis delivers in fine style. The second time around on the bridge, where he sings "Hoooooold my hand and promise..." is a classic moment!

More to come later, meanwhile, check out the music, videos and links!

Other Spins

(What did the critics and fans say?)

"I Beg Of You" is... a medium-tempo "soft" rocker, with the Jordanaires adding a distinctive background. Presley's voice is in good shape; he trumps a previous ace by his treatment of the word "hold" in "hold my hand" - he erupts suddenly on a long pitched growl, in true blues-shouter style.

Robert Matthew-Walker, Elvis Presley: A Study in Music, 1979

Smooth mover with Elvis in vocal control and the Jordanaires perfectly filled in.

The Complete Elvis, edited by Martin Torgoff, 1982

"I Beg Of You" Lyrics and Downloads

I don't want my heart to be broken
Cause it's the only one I've got
So darling please be careful
You know I care a lot
Darling please don't break my heart
I beg of you

I don't want no tears a-falling
You know I hate to cry
But that's what's bound to happen
If you just say goodbye
Darling please don't say goodbye
I beg of you

Hold my hand and promise
That you'll always love me true
Make me know you'll love me
The same way I love you little girl

You got me at your mercy
Now that I'm in love with you
So please don't take advantage
Cause you know my love is true
Darling please please love me too
I beg of you

Hold my hand and promise
That you'll always love me true
Make me know you'll love me
The same way I love you little girl

You got me at your mercy
Now that I'm in love with you
So please don't take advantage
Cause you know my love is true
Darling please please love me too
I beg of you
