My Spin

(Just my opinion. Give us yours!)
The title song to Elvis' 22nd flick, "Spinout" doesn't rise up to any higher standards than the film does. Goofy tune and campy lyrics might make you laugh, but probably for all the wrong reasons. The lyrics try to match up racing terms with romance, and the results are pretty predictable ("better watch those curves"... betcha didn't see THAT one comin'), although the music has a little more punch than some other soundtrack songs. Still, let's face it, this is pretty silly stuff! Wouldn't you rather listen to "Speedway" instead?

Other Spins

(What did the critics and fans say?)

The original title track, "Spinout" is undistinguished with another too-prominent organ part in the middle section.

Robert Matthew-Walker, Elvis Presley: A Study in Music, 1979

Title song from the 1966 film, typical swinger with cornball groovy lyrics about racing and Elvis giving his best shot.

The Complete Elvis, edited by Martin Torgoff, 1982

"Spinout" Lyrics

When her motor's warm, and she's purrin' sweet
Buddy let me warn ya', you're on a one-way street
She'll crowd ya' close, spin your wheels
Then you're gonna know how it feels
To spinout... spinout

Better watch those curves, never let her steer
If she can shake your nerves, boy
She can strip your gears
She'll get your heart, goin' fast
Then she'll let you run out of gas
So spinout... spinout

The road to love is full of, danger signs
Too many guys were lost
Who crossed those double lines

Doncha know she's out to prove, she can really score
Never saw parts move, boy
Like that before
To flag you down, that's her goal
Scoot before you lose control
And spinout... spinout!
